Windows 7 Spotlight: Jump Lists

By now you've probably heard of Jump Lists, one of Windows 7's most celebrated features, but maybe you're not sure what they are or how they'll improve the end-user experience.

Let's start with the "what." In Vista, right-clicking a taskbar icon brings up a familiar context menu with options like Open, Cut, and Copy (many of which aren't even applicable to the associated programs or their icons).

In Windows 7, right-clicking a taskbar icon brings up a handy list of frequently used documents and tasks--specific to that application. That's a Jump List. Here's an example of one you'd see after right-clicking the Internet Explorer icon:

You'll also find Jump Lists in the Start Menu alongside various programs, again giving you easy access to recently opened items and commonly performed tasks.
