The State of Windows 7: Already Outselling Vista
Phhbblllttt. As it turns out, Windows 7 sales are through the roof--at least relative to Vista's. According to Web-apps developer Net Applications, it took Windows 7 a mere three months to sell as many licenses as Vista did in an entire year. In fact, if trends continue, Windows 7 will rank as the second-most popular computer OS (behind XP, which for now remains on top) as early as June. Here's an excerpt from Computerworld's story on Windows 7's "swelling" adoption: "There's no slowing of the Windows 7 growth curve," said Vince Vizzaccaro, executive vice president with Net Applications, who also noted that on Sunday Microsoft's newest OS accounted for more than 10% of all machines that were online. Windows 7's share typically climbs on weekends and holidays, as more of the people online are running home computers, which are more likely to run the new operating system. Unfortunately, the story doesn't say exactly who's doing the adopting: consumers, businesses, or both. Our guess is these numbers mostly reflect home and/or small-business users, but we're hoping enterprises are receiving Windows 7 with the same open arms. |
Remember all those surveys and studies last year that concluded nobody and their brother would adopt Windows 7 much before, say, 2011?
