The Importance of Application Compatibility Testing -- and How to Do It
As Intel recently discovered, any organization planning to migrate to Windows 7 should perform comprehensive application-compatibility testing before deployment. Over at WindowsNetworking.com, author Brien Posey has an extensive two-part series on Windows 7 compatibility testing--why it's so important and what tools are available to help you get it done. Part 1 looks at the often-forgotten Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, which, though "most appropriate for use in small organizations, although it can be used in larger organizations if you want to get a general idea of the types of issues that might be uncovered during more comprehensive testing." Part 2 looks expressly at app-compatibility testing for larger organizations, with a focus on tools like the Application Compatibility Toolkit. Posey walks you through ACT operation step by step. In short, it's a great guide for IT managers who want to look (and act) before they leap. Be sure to give this a read before pulling the trigger on Windows 7. |
