Test-Drive Windows 7 Free for 90 Days
A while back we told you how to get a trial version of Windows 7 Enterprise (which is still available, by the way). Now Microsoft is offering a free 90-day trial of Windows 7 proper, but with one slight difference: It's a Virtual Hard Disk, or VHD. In other words, the Windows 7 VHD is a downloadable version of the OS that runs in Microsoft's Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V environment. Ultimately, it's a way for you to test-drive 7 without actually deploying it. Couple things you'll need: a 64-bit system with hardware-assisted virtualization enabled and data execution prevention (DEP). Microsoft also recommends a clean install of the x64 edition of Windows Server 2008 to be able to use the Hyper-V technology. The Windows 7 VHD is available free of charge. Once installed, you'll be able to run the OS in all its glory for a full 90 days. Great option for enterprises looking for a date, but not necessarily a spouse. |
