Windows Server 2008 R2 Spotlight: The AD Recycle Bin

AD Recycle Bin.jpg

Windows Server 2008 R2 solves a problem familiar to any IT administrator: accidentally deleted objects. Before R2 came along, you'd have to wade through a time-consuming authoritative restore to get those objects back.

Now, however, it's a simple matter of venturing into the new Active Directory Recycle Bin. Once enabled, it changes the lifecycle of Active Directory objects, as shown in the above diagram.

Enterprise IT Planet's John Policelli explains more in Introducing the AD Recycle Bin. We're not going to post an excerpt here, as it's a fairly technical story, and short enough to read in a matter of minutes.

And read it you should, especially if you've already deployed Windows Server 2008 R2 or you're in the midst of it. This simple but indispensable new feature could save you countless hours of restoration work.
